“Pots For Bots” Family Fundraiser will benefit Hall-Dale High School Robotics Team
Hallowell, Maine -- Hallowell Clayworks is hosting a Pots for Bots fundraiser at 100 Water Street in Hallowell from 12-2pm on Sunday, December 11th. The cost to participate is $10 and all ages are welcome. This is a drop-in event, participants should plan on spending at least 20 to 30 minutes creating a pinch-pot (shaped by hand, not on the wheel) with coaching from members of the Hall-Dale High School Robotics team. The pots will be glazed and fired in the kiln and can be picked up at Hallowell Clayworks at a later date.
The event is a fundraiser for Hall-Dale High School’s Robotics Team. Delta Prime is a member of FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), an international high school robotics competition that gives students real-world engineering experience. FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to "real-world engineering" as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Delta Prime needs to raise over $20,000 each year to enter and participate in the competitions, many of which are out of state. Local businesses and individuals can help by sponsoring the team.
